Based on this event's terrain, difficulty and riding style.
At 560 km with 11000 m of elevation gain, Further Unceded is roughly the distance of 13 marathons back to back, with climbing that adds up to more than 1.2 times the height of Mount Everest.
For Further Unceded, we'd recommend a Hardtail MTB — plan on 2.2-2.4" Tubeless tires and a wide-range drivetrain, something like a 30-32T (1x) chainring paired with a 10-52T cassette, to handle the terrain comfortably.
Further Unceded carries an overall difficulty rating of Intermediate. The terrain itself is seriously technical, unforgiving terrain throughout, the climbing is steadily rolling, with a healthy amount of climbing, and conditions tend to run mild and generally comfortable.
Further Unceded runs on September 13, 2026, placing it firmly in the autumn riding season, as conditions start cooling but daylight hours are shrinking.
Surface-wise, expect off-road throughout Further Unceded — 2.2-2.4" Tubeless tires are a safe bet.
