Liège–Paris–Liège Challenge is a self-supported road ultracycling event inspired by a race that was originally planned in the late 19th century but never took place. Organised from the cycling heartland of Liège, Belgium, the event celebrates the heritage of Liège–Bastogne–Liège while taking riders on a modern ultra-distance adventure through Belgium, France, Germany, and Luxembourg.
The flagship LPL Challenge covers 1,250 kilometres with approximately 16,000 metres of elevation gain, starting and finishing in Liège. The route is 99% paved and follows a fixed GPX through the Gaume Natural Park, Nancy, the Vosges Mountains, Grand Ballon, the Route des Crêtes, the Hunsrück, Mullerthal in Luxembourg, and the Eifel, before returning to the Ardennes for a finale inspired by Liège–Bastogne–Liège. A shorter LPL Spring option covers 440 km with 5,900 m of climbing.
Liège–Paris–Liège follows a strict self-supported philosophy. Riders are responsible for their own navigation, food, accommodation, and mechanical repairs, with no outside assistance permitted. Solo and duo categories are available, with both routes rewarding careful pacing, efficient planning, and endurance over multiple days.
Blending cycling history with a challenging modern route, Liège–Paris–Liège Challenge offers a unique road ultra through some of Western Europe’s most iconic cycling regions. It is an event where legendary roads, rolling landscapes, and self-reliance come together in a true ultra-distance adventure.
