Sugar Gravel is an unsupported bikepacking adventure around Stuttgart, Germany, built around a simple concept: fixed checkpoints, but complete freedom to decide how you connect them. The route mixes gravel roads, forest tracks, climbs, vineyards, valleys, and urban sections into a self-navigated challenge.
The main Sugar Gravel route covers approximately 550 kilometres with 8,000 metres of elevation gain, starting and finishing at Marienburg in Stuttgart. Riders have three days to complete the course, choosing their own route between the designated checkpoints. A shorter Sugarle Gravel option covers around 270 km and 4,000 m over two days, making it a more accessible introduction to unsupported bikepacking.
The event follows a strict self-supported format. Riders must carry what they need or use publicly available services along the way, with no pre-arranged accommodation, food depots, or outside assistance allowed. Navigation and route choice are part of the challenge, with every rider creating their own version of the course.
Taking place from 9–11 October 2026, Sugar Gravel combines the freedom of a DIY route with the atmosphere of a shared event. Riders return to Stuttgart for a communal finish, with camping, food, drinks, and a finisher celebration included.
