If you’re seeking a raw, self-supported adventure deep in the backcountry, the Doom bikepacking routes deliver in every way—brutal, beautiful, and utterly unforgettable.
Surface types range from hardpack gravel, to abandoned 4×4 roads, to remote and rugged singletrack. In our newest edition, a mountain bike is the only recommendation; the days of gravel bikes and underbiking are now gone – we’ve upped the difficulty even more.
Based on this event's terrain, difficulty and riding style.
At 680 km, Doom is roughly the distance of 16 marathons back to back.
For Doom, we'd recommend a Hardtail MTB — plan on 2.2-2.4" Tubeless tires and a wide-range drivetrain, something like a 30-32T (1x) chainring paired with a 10-52T cassette, to handle the terrain comfortably.
Doom carries an overall difficulty rating of Intermediate. The terrain itself is seriously technical, unforgiving terrain throughout, and conditions tend to run mild and generally comfortable.
Doom takes place on April 1, 2026. That puts it in spring, when weather can still be unpredictable, so a flexible kit is worth packing.
Surface-wise, expect off-road throughout Doom — 2.2-2.4" Tubeless tires are a safe bet.
