Log Driver’s Waltz is a self-supported gravel bikepacking route that showcases the best off-road riding in Ontario and Quebec, Canada. Created by local bikepackers, the route explores the Ottawa Valley and Outaouais through a diverse mix of gravel roads, forest tracks, rail trails, quiet backroads, and riverside paths, offering a true Canadian wilderness adventure.
The route covers approximately 800 kilometres with around 9,500 metres of elevation gain, starting and finishing in Almonte, Ontario. Around 75% of the route is unpaved, taking riders through the Lanark Highlands, North Frontenac, Gatineau Park, and along the historic Rideau Canal, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. While Ride with GPS reports lower climbing, rider data places the true elevation gain closer to 9,500 m.
Log Driver’s Waltz follows a strict self-supported philosophy. Riders are responsible for their own navigation, food, accommodation, and mechanical repairs, with no outside assistance permitted. Rather than being a traditional race, the annual Grand Départ is a community-driven challenge where participants ride at their own pace, with no prizes or official time limit.
With its rugged terrain, welcoming community, and spectacular mix of forests, lakes, rivers, and backcountry roads, Log Driver’s Waltz has become one of Canada’s premier bikepacking routes. It is an unforgettable adventure for riders seeking a challenging off-road journey through the country’s national capital region.
