Tour Divide is one of the world’s most legendary self-supported bikepacking races, following the iconic Great Divide Mountain Bike Route along the spine of the Rocky Mountains. Stretching from Banff, Canada, to Antelope Wells, New Mexico, it is considered one of the purest and toughest tests of endurance, self-reliance, and wilderness navigation in cycling.
The route covers approximately 4,400 kilometres (2,745 miles) with nearly 60,000 metres (200,000 feet) of elevation gain. Riders traverse Alberta, British Columbia, Montana, Idaho, Wyoming, Colorado, and New Mexico, tackling rugged gravel roads, forest tracks, remote mountain passes, and occasional hike-a-bike sections through some of North America’s wildest landscapes.
Tour Divide follows a strict self-supported philosophy. Riders are responsible for their own navigation, food, accommodation, and mechanical repairs, with no outside assistance permitted. The clock runs continuously from the Grand Départ in Banff until the finish at the U.S.–Mexico border, making sleep strategy, resupply planning, and mental resilience as important as physical strength.
From alpine forests and glacier-fed valleys to high desert plateaus and remote wilderness, Tour Divide is more than a race — it is a continental-scale expedition. Completing it is widely regarded as one of the greatest achievements in ultra-distance bikepacking.

Based on this event's terrain, difficulty and riding style.
Riders taking on Tour Divide will cover 4400 km and climb roughly 60000 m over the course of the route.
A Hardtail MTB is the right tool for Tour Divide. Set it up with 2.2-2.4" Tubeless rubber and gear it low — a 30-32T (1x) chainring and 10-52T cassette will keep you spinning on the steeper sections.
We rate Tour Divide as Extreme overall. Riders should be ready for seriously technical, unforgiving terrain throughout, relentlessly mountainous, climbing almost the entire way elevation gain, and mild and generally comfortable conditions.
Mark your calendar for May 22, 2027 — Tour Divide's spring timing means when weather can still be unpredictable, so a flexible kit is worth packing.
Tour Divide's route is off-road. Plan your tire choice around 2.2-2.4" Tubeless for the best combination of speed and comfort.
