What to Expect on Transcordilleras Nonstop

Transcordilleras Non Stop is a self-supported ultra-distance bikepacking race through the heart of the Colombian Andes. Designed for experienced endurance riders, it traverses one of the world’s most mountainous cycling destinations, combining demanding climbs, high-altitude passes, and an ever-changing mix of paved and unpaved roads.

The flagship route covers approximately 800 kilometres with an impressive 18,500 metres of elevation gain, starting in Honda, Tolima. Around 60% of the course is paved and 40% unpaved, taking riders across Colombia’s Central Andes via remote mountain roads, gravel tracks, and rugged backcountry routes. Mountain passes rise above 4,000 metres, while the valleys below can reach temperatures of 40°C, creating a remarkable contrast in both terrain and climate.

Transcordilleras follows a strict self-supported philosophy. Riders are responsible for their own navigation, food, accommodation, and mechanical repairs, with no outside assistance permitted. The combination of extreme elevation, unpredictable weather, and long distances between services demands careful planning, resilience, and strong decision-making throughout the race.

More than just an ultra-distance event, Transcordilleras is an immersion into Colombia’s spectacular landscapes and cycling culture. From lush cloud forests and volcanic peaks to vibrant mountain towns, the route showcases why Colombia has earned its reputation as one of the world’s greatest destinations for endurance cycling.
