What to Expect on Uppsala – Trondheim – Uppsala

Pilgrim Brevet is a self-supported ultra-distance randonnée inspired by the historic Pilgrim’s Way between Uppsala and Trondheim. Following ancient trading routes, quiet country roads, and spectacular Scandinavian landscapes, the event offers a unique blend of endurance cycling, history, and Nordic wilderness.

The route covers approximately 1,584 kilometres with around 13,300 metres of elevation gain, starting and finishing in Uppsala, Sweden. Riders travel north through the forests of Dalarna, cross the Scandinavian mountains into Norway, reach the iconic Nidaros Cathedral in Trondheim, and return to Uppsala along the same historic pilgrimage corridor.

Although organised as a randonnée rather than a race, Pilgrim Brevet is a true test of endurance. Riders are responsible for their own pacing, navigation, and decision-making while following a fixed route. Organised controls provide food, simple accommodation, and drop bag access, allowing participants to focus on the challenge while remaining largely self-sufficient.

The route showcases the best of the Scandinavian summer, from dense forests and tranquil lakes to open mountain plateaus and the UNESCO-listed mining town of Røros. Long daylight hours, quiet roads, and ever-changing scenery create an unforgettable journey through two countries, where the adventure is defined as much by the landscapes as the distance itself.

Combining the spirit of long-distance randonneuring with the rich history of the ancient pilgrimage route, Pilgrim Brevet is one of Northern Europe’s most rewarding endurance cycling adventures.
