What to Expect on Graval – Iberian Road

Iberian Road is a self-supported ultra-distance road cycling adventure that crosses the Iberian Peninsula from Santiago de Compostela to Valencia. Organised by GRAVAL, the event is designed for riders who want to experience the spirit of ultra-cycling on quiet secondary roads, combining long-distance endurance with the cultural and geographical diversity of Spain.

The 2026 edition covers approximately 1,000 kilometres with around 13,000 metres of elevation gain, starting in Santiago de Compostela and finishing in Valencia. Riders follow a fixed GPX route through Galicia, the Montes de León, Tierra de Campos, the Sistema Central, and the Sistema Ibérico, before descending towards the Mediterranean coast. The route includes five mandatory checkpoints in Ponferrada, Tordesillas, Riaza, Sigüenza, and Albarracín.

Iberian Road follows a strict self-supported philosophy. Riders are responsible for their own navigation, food, accommodation, and mechanical repairs, with no outside assistance permitted. The event has a 110-hour time limit, requiring participants to carefully manage their pacing, sleep, and resupply strategy across the entire crossing.

With its combination of remote back roads, historic landscapes, and demanding mountain passes, Iberian Road offers a unique road ultra experience. It is not a race in the traditional sense, but a personal adventure where completing the journey from the Atlantic to the Mediterranean is the ultimate achievement.
