GBDURO is one of the UK’s most iconic self-supported bikepacking events, taking riders from Land’s End to John o’ Groats along the legendary GB Divide. Organised by The Racing Collective, the event blends road, gravel, bridleways, singletrack, and ancient trails into a true all-road adventure while promoting a strong ethos of sustainability and low-impact travel.
The route covers approximately 2,000 kilometres with around 25,000 metres of elevation gain, starting in Land’s End, England, and finishing at John o’ Groats, Scotland. Riders follow a fixed GPX route through England, Wales, and Scotland, crossing national parks, remote moorlands, forests, and mountain landscapes on a constantly changing mix of surfaces that rewards versatility as much as endurance.
GBDURO follows a strict self-supported philosophy. Riders are responsible for their own navigation, food, accommodation, and mechanical repairs, with no outside assistance permitted. More than a race, the event encourages participants to embrace the principles of Leave No Trace and #NoFlyRide, making sustainability an integral part of the challenge.
With its varied terrain, demanding distance, and unique environmental ethos, GBDURO has become one of Europe’s most respected mixed-terrain bikepacking events. It is a challenge that rewards resilience, adaptability, and a genuine spirit of adventure.
Based on this event's terrain, difficulty and riding style.
At 2000 km with 25000 m of elevation gain, GBDURO is roughly the distance of 47 marathons back to back, with climbing that adds up to more than 2.8 times the height of Mount Everest.
For GBDURO, we'd recommend a Hardtail MTB — plan on 2.2-2.4" Tubeless tires and a wide-range drivetrain, something like a 30-32T (1x) chainring paired with a 10-52T cassette, to handle the terrain comfortably.
We rate GBDURO as Extreme overall. Riders should be ready for seriously technical, unforgiving terrain throughout, relentlessly mountainous, climbing almost the entire way elevation gain, and mild and generally comfortable conditions.
GBDURO takes place on August 15, 2026. That puts it in summer, with long daylight hours, though heat can become a real factor.
GBDURO runs primarily on off-road, and we'd recommend 2.2-2.4" Tubeless tires to handle it comfortably.
