Supergrevet Basel–Kleve revives one of the earliest long-distance cycling classics, first held in 1894, as a modern self-supported gravel adventure. Following the Rhine from Basel, Switzerland, to Kleve, Germany, the route retraces the spirit of cycling’s pioneers on quiet gravel roads, river paths, and scenic backroads instead of today’s busy highways.
The route covers approximately 750 kilometres, starting in Basel and finishing in Kleve, with the 2026 edition beginning on 26 September. Riders follow a fixed GPX through Switzerland, France, and Germany, passing the Upper Rhine, the Black Forest, vineyards, forests, floodplains, and the wide landscapes of the Lower Rhine. The course favours flowing gravel, riverside dykes, and quiet country roads over technical trails, creating a rhythm-focused endurance challenge.
Supergrevet Basel–Kleve follows a strict self-supported philosophy. Riders are responsible for their own navigation, food, accommodation, and mechanical repairs, with no outside assistance permitted. Supply locations are marked along the GPX, but success depends on careful planning, efficient pacing, and the ability to keep moving over several days.
Blending cycling history with modern gravel bikepacking, Supergrevet Basel–Kleve offers a unique journey through the landscapes that shaped some of Europe’s earliest endurance races. It is an event where heritage, adventure, and self-reliance come together over 750 memorable kilometres.
